Alison Bennett's Monday Mail: George & The Dragon
Prorogation
Parliament has been ‘prorogued’.
If that’s the formal bit, what does it mean in practice? Well I am in Sussex until the King's Speech on Wednesday 13th May. Although there is no business going on in Westminster, my office is still operating as usual, so do get in touch if we can help you with something. I am splitting my time between the usual cycle of constituency meetings, and getting out and about campaigning for the county council elections that are happening on Thursday.
Polling day is this Thursday
Campaigning is always a pleasure when it’s this time of year. On Thursday I enjoyed leafleting in Bolney, followed by a bite to eat at The Eight Bells, and then talking to residents in Haywards Heath and Lindfield. The Mid Sussex Lib Dems were also delighted that Munira Wilson who is our MP for Twickenham was able to come and help our candidates in East Grinstead - Vanessa, Lee and Steve on Saturday afternoon.
Once I have finished writing this newsletter, I will be heading out again, and happily the sun being out makes it all the more enjoyable.
Team 2026
We didn’t know whether these elections were going to happen until a Monday afternoon in the middle of February when the government was forced into a U-turn and reinstated them. I was pleased that we were able to hit the ground running, welcoming Lib Dem leader Ed Davey to Mid Sussex the very next day.
In these unusual circumstances, we have been blessed with a brilliant and energised slate of candidates who have thrown themselves into the campaign. Find out about Team 2026 on our website.
However, our candidates would not be challenging across Mid Sussex were it not for the hundreds of people who volunteer to support them. Whether it is delivering leaflets, having a poster up, stuffing hundreds of envelopes, making phone calls, donating or being the long suffering spouse of a candidate. A massive thank you for what you have made possible.
Win or lose we have so much to be proud of. Thank you.
