About Alison

Alison was elected as the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex in the 2024 General Election, the first ever non-Conservative to represent the constituency since it was created in 1974. She is also the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Care and Carers.

Alison has lived in Mid Sussex with her family since 2012.

She grew up in an armed forces family, spending her first two years on an army base in Cyprus before moving to Gloucestershire. She graduated with a degree in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University in 1999.

After graduation, Alison worked for British Airways in business planning before moving to E.on, where she worked on products to support people in fuel poverty and special tariffs that incentivised green power generation through solar panels, and Legal & General, where her focus was on improving the company's customer experience.

Alison then took a career break to raise her family and volunteered with her local school and children's groups in Mid Sussex.

Alison joined the Liberal Democrats in 2015 and became active in 2016, following the Brexit referendum and the election of Donald Trump. At the time, the Conservatives held all the seats on the district council and every county council division in Mid Sussex, as well as having the local MP.

About this decision, Alison said: “I was dismayed, but realised that while I couldn't do anything about what happened on the other side of the Atlantic, I could have an impact in the village where my children were growing up. I was fed up of people saying that there was no point voting because the same party always won. I was determined to do something about it.”

Alison was elected as a district councillor for Hurstpierpoint & Downs in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. She because Deputy Leader of Mid Sussex District Council when the Liberal Democrats became the largest party on the council. She stood in the General Election in 2019 before winning Mid Sussex in 2024.
