SAVE OUR POST OFFICES PETITION DELIVERED TO GORDON BROWN
A petition with 2500 signatures of local people calling on the Prime Minister to reverse the policy of closing local post offices has been delivered to Gordon Brown.

Serena Tierney, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Mid Sussex, presented the petition to Lib Dem Shadow Minister for post offices, Lembit Opik who delivered it to Gordon Brown.
She said:
"The local post offices Mid Sussex have had a tremendous response from local people to the petition. Our signatures have been sent to the Prime Minister along with hundreds of thousands of signatures from other communities across the country.
"Losing a post office hits a local community badly and results in hardship for many people who cannot easily get to a post office 3 miles away. It is a short-sighted policy by a government that has undermined the financial viability of the post office by removing more and more services from it.
"Here in Mid Sussex, we know that while some of our post offices should be reprieved in this latest round of cuts, others are under very real threat.
