Alison Bennett's Monday Mail: So what of the Budget?

A short one this week

Apologies it’s a bit of short Monday Mail this week, it’s been half term, and I have just come in from knocking on a few doors in Burgess Hill.

Questions

Although the Budget dominated the airwaves last week, for me, I ended up with a run of statements and questions that were about more local issues. Car cruising on the A2300, rail safety and reliability, and another non-decision about local government reorganisation for West Sussex.

You can always check what I have been saying each week in Parliament by visiting my Spoken Contributions web page.

So what of the Budget?

In terms of the impact on day to day household spending, it is worth looking at the Money Saving Expert review.

Of course the Budget also gives an insight into the state of our economy, and what the fundamentals are that underpin the choices made by the Chancellor last Wednesday. I thought that Sky News’ interview with Dan Tomlinson, one of the junior ministers in the Treasury, was instructive in this respect.

It is interesting that it was Ed Conway, Sky’s Economics and Data Editor, who did that interview because a couple of weeks ago I read his substack where he unpicked the UK economy describing it as a ‘Money Saving Expert’ economy.

Have a read and let me know whether you agree with him.
