Alison Bennett's Monday Mail: And so to recess

And so to recess (but first Gaza, Adoption and Kinship Support, and a Presentation Bill)

As of last Tuesday, Parliament reached its end of term, meaning that I am now in Mid Sussex for the next few weeks, before hopefully taking some time off later on in August.

Gaza

However before we left Westminster, I had the chance to question the Foreign Secretary about the appalling conditions that are being inflicted on people in Gaza. You can watch what I said here. I am also a signatory to the cross party letter from over a third of MPs calling for Palestine to be recognised as a state.

Adoption and Kinship Support

Following my visit to Jigsaw in Burgess Hill, I was pleased to be able to set out to Education Ministers the consequences of their decision to limit per child funding for therapy for children who are in kinship care or who have been adopted. I am so cross that the government refuses to accept that limiting per child funding has had profound consequences for our most vulnerable children.

A Presentation Bill on Respite Care

I also tabled my first Presentation Bill last week. Should this proposed law be enacted, it would give family carers the right to respite care. This was in support of the Carers Trust’s ‘Protest from Home’ day.

Meanwhile, back in Sussex

I have had been making the most of recess already, with:

A visit to a drawing class for carers and the people they care for

A campaign to get better pharmacy provision in Mid Sussex

Plus an MP surgery in Hassocks, a visit to a sewage treatment works in Goddards Green, and a visit to the Hop Sun in Haywards Heath.

Next week I am looking forward to getting out and about across the towns and villages of Mid Sussex. If you would like to volunteer some time to help me talk to voters, let me know here.

Getting in touch

My parliamentary email address is: alison.bennett.mp@parliament.uk. If you need my help, please get in touch.
